POETIC ADORNMENTS: IN CONVERSATION WITH MOSQUITO

If, like us, you’re drawn to the heart-breakingly beautiful world of Mosquito, read on for a short interview with its creator, Marta. She shares her favorite piece from her personal jewelry collection, the vintage blazer she’s wearing on repeat, and her go-to spots for vintage shopping along the southern coast of France.

What is your favorite Mosquito piece in the
collection right now?

At the moment, I’m crushing on the Paloma necklace. It’s my first upcycled piece and has a very vintage soul. But I have to say, I also have a deep love for the Juanico necklace, as well as my shell pieces. These are the most iconic, honest, and representative items in the Mosquito universe.

Is there a movie you’ve seen recently that has stuck with you?

Sweet Bean – Naomi Kawase (2015)  really touched my soul.

Your go-to pastry order?

A fluffy cinnamon roll or a good baked cheesecake.

What’s an under-the-radar brand from France/Spain that we need to know about?

I’m in love with shoes made in Spain by About Arianne and the vintage pieces curated by Lucia Zolea.

A staple piece in your wardrobe that you wear over and over in the winter?

A black vintage blazer from the ’80s by Norma Kamali, with tone-on-tone embroidered flowers.

An artist or designer who inspires your work?

I adore the work of Katherine Knoll (jewelry designer) and have great admiration for artists like Constantin Brancusi.

Your go-to vacation spot?

Somewhere on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Best food, best people, different culture, full of wild animals, and beautiful beaches.

Your style crush?

My friends Mariana Vergara and Amah Modek. I also love Laura Reilly’s style.

Best meal you’ve had recently and where?

Grilled octopus with nduja, cooked by my boyfriend at his restaurant.

Best meal you’ve had recently and where? Favorite piece of jewelry in your jewelry box?

I have a lapis lazuli stone necklace that my mother assembled during her years working in jewelry. She gave it to me a few years ago. It’s a very classic piece, but it holds great sentimental value.

Gold or Silver?

On me, gold, but I’m increasingly open to introducing silver options in my pieces.

Favorite place in your town for vintage shopping?

I live on the southwest coast of France. Every Sunday, there are “brocantes”—outdoor flea markets filled with antiques, jewelry, and clothing. It’s a must-visit every Sunday.

Favorite gemstone?

A tough one… I really like crystal rock.

Your go-to coffee order?

A single-shot latte with oat milk. :-)

Thank you for sharing your world with us, Marta. We can't wait to see what beautiful things you create next.
