FIVE ARTISTS, ONE UNIFORM: HOW THEY WEAR IT
What do a ceramicist, plaster artist, floral designer, and creative director all have in common?
MEALS.
Meet Painter White—a Vestige exclusive, created in collaboration with MEALS. The perfect crisp white, just begging to get messy in the studio. We asked five artists (and longtime Chef Pant and Forager Jacket devotees) how they’re wearing the new fit—plus a few questions for a little mid-summer inspiration.
Read on for playlists, pocket dumps, and a peek inside their studios.

Suzanne Sullivan, Ceramicist
AKA SAM & LOUISE'S MOM AND MAKER OF INTRICATE, PLAYFUL CERAMICS. @suzannesullivanceramics
WHAT’S BEEN PLAYING IN THE STUDIO LATELY?
I am obviously always listening to Sam and Louise—my current favorite being a song called "Nobody Knows the Life of a Wife of a Private Eye," but "Avalon" is super summery.
WHAT DO YOU TEND TO STASH IN YOUR MEALS POCKETS WHILE YOU WORK?
You can often find a metal rib, a wooden modeling tool, and my favorite glazing tool, which is this Victorian ink scraper I can’t live without.
READ, WATCHED, OR LISTENED TO ANYTHING LATELY THAT STUCK WITH YOU?
I am halfway through a Wim Wenders documentary about Yohji Yamamoto called "Notebook on Cities and Clothes."

HOW DO YOU STAY INSPIRED IN THE STUDIO DURING THE SUMMER? ANY PLACES YOU TURN TO FOR A CREATIVE RESET?
The ocean. Always. I need to get in the water every few days in the summer and fall—it resets everything. We’re lucky to be close to the Rhode Island coast, and I go often with my daughter, who’s as devoted to the "Wa Wa" as I am. We share chips, build things in the sand, listen to music on the drive home. It’s our ritual and my favorite part of the season.
WHAT DO YOU TEND TO STASH IN YOUR MEALS POCKETS WHILE YOU WORK?
Depends on the day! But usually the basics like phone and AirPods. I usually have some type of rock or seashell I’ve picked up along the way.

Ashley Powell,
Floral Designer
FLORALSMITH AND FORAGING NYMPH—THE HEART BEHIND ALL THE FLOWERS AT OUR STOREFRONT. @ashnearthfloral
WHAT’S BEEN PLAYING IN THE STUDIO LATELY?
Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou, and Floatie on repeat when I’m feeling like I need to be grounded. The Fall, Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, and Die Verlierer when I’m feeling more energetic!
WHAT DO YOU TEND TO STASH IN YOUR MEALS POCKETS WHILE YOU WORK?
What don’t I stash in my MEALS pockets while I work? :)
HOW ARE YOU WEARING MEALS? ANY PARTICULAR SUMMER UNIFORM?
I love my Forager Jacket for, well, foraging—it’s such a nice light layer that keeps me protected. I’m always throwing it on over my overalls! I also love pairing it with a breezy summer dress.

Claire Resnick,
Ceramicist
PINCHING OUT OUR FAVORITE TEXTURAL, WONKY FORMS BY HAND. @wonky.ware
WHAT DO YOU TEND TO STASH IN YOUR MEALS POCKETS WHILE YOU WORK?
MEALS pockets are never-ending. I have used them to help carry finished work from one end of the studio to the other when I can't fill my arms up anymore. The loop perfectly fits a rag and my car keys and I sometimes even carry a water bottle in the bottom pockets.
HOW DO YOU STAY INSPIRED IN THE STUDIO DURING THE SUMMER? ANY RITUALS OR PLACES YOU TURN TO FOR A CREATIVE RESET?
I’ve been spending a lot of time at the beach this summer—watching the textures the waves leave behind in the sand has been so inspiring. I’ve also been collecting shells and rocks. Feeling the grooves, cracks, and polished bits on the shells is a humbling reminder of the magic that is in nature.

WHAT’S BEEN PLAYING IN THE STUDIO LATELY?

ANY UPCOMING ADVENTURES OR DREAM DESTINATIONS ON YOUR MIND?
In October some friends and I are going to stay at Walter De Maria's "Lightning Field" installation, managed by Dia, in New Mexico. You can enter a lottery to get the opportunity to stay one night in a cabin out in the Lightning Field and experience it for a day. I'm excited to do that and to adventure out from there to see some family and some historic sites nearby like Chaco Culture.
WHAT DO YOU TEND TO STASH IN YOUR MEALS POCKETS WHILE YOU WORK?
I always have a multitool and a cotton handkerchief.
